Make a Graph with Google Sheets
In this video I introduce a skill that I know I have taken for granted for years. I asked my students the other day if they know how to make a graph on the computer. NO. Well here you go. This technology is decades old. Be efficient with your time and make a graph this way. Of course once you make a graph on your computer you will need to play around and customize it to fit your needs. That's on you. But here is an easy to follow video on how to get this whole thing started.
Some of the things you can do include picking a type of graph, colors, fonts, labels, switching axes, changing your scale min and max, etc. Make sure you play around with your graph to make it as professional as you c...

Naming Organic Compounds (Alk -ane, -ene, and -yne)!!
Просмотров 18711 месяцев назад
This is a long video on the complexity of naming organic compounds. I go through different examples where you could pause the video and work on your own. THIS VIDEO ONLY GOES OVER ALKANES, ALKENES, AND ALKYNES!!! However it will help you out when naming and drawing the structures. I hope that it helps you out.
REDOX Reactions Spontaneous or Non-Spontaneous
Просмотров 9311 месяцев назад
Here I take you through the basics of what a half reaction is and how to make them yourself. The end goal is to identify a reaction as reacting "Spontaneous" or "Non-Spontaneous". You will need a Dr Pepper and a table of Reduction Half Reactions. RULE: If your Reduction Half Reaction is HIGHER on the table than the Oxidation Half Reaction THEN your reaction will be SPONTANEOUS. Good Luck.
Multivalent Ionic Compounds 2nd Ed

Watch my video on Simple Ionic Compounds first if you don't know what they are. You need that information to be able to do this Chemistry. The link is below. I finally made an updated version of my 12 year old video. I thought it was about time. The good thing is, the chemistry has not changed. I hope you have some practice. Here is the link to Simple Ionic Compounds ruclips.net/video/iFte4VYFT...
Naming Simple Ionic Compounds 2nd Ed
Просмотров 11011 месяцев назад
It's been 12 years so I thought I'd make an updated version of how to name Simple Ionic Compounds. You would need your wits, periodic table, and of course some practice. Don't mind the clicking sounds, it's just me. We go over the basic definition of and Ionic Compound and then some examples of formula to the name and name to the formula. I hope it helps. When you are done you can try out Multi...
CuCl2 and Aluminum Lab
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.3 года назад
For my students I have run an experiment testing the effect that a closed and open experiment has on the Law of Conservation of Mass. This is also a chance to observe the difference between physical and chemical change by taking quantitative and qualitative observations. I will be making my students write up a lab report on this one. If they decide to read this synopsis then they will find some...
Potassium Permanganate and Glycerine
Просмотров 5643 года назад
This reaction is of potassium permanganate and glycerine. Your task is to gather the qualitative and quantitative observations. Explain any discrepancies between observations. Be careful, this is super matchless cool. If you happen to not be in my class, then just enjoy this for its righteousness.
Stoichiometry: For the Win

H2SO4 and Sugar (Carbon Snake)
Просмотров 6913 года назад
Another demonstration of a chemical reaction between two substances. The substances in question, H2SO4 (sulfuric acid) and ordinary household sugar (sucrose; C12H22O11). I tell my students to gather evidence of Physical and Chemical change. You collect your observations of what you see and then explain to me what evidence you have that can confirm whatever type of change. If you are just watchi...
Barium Hydroxide and Ammonium Thiocyanate
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 года назад
This is a part of the ole Data Collection series. I want my students to watch this reaction take place as I describe what it happening. You are supposed to identify the evidence of a chemical reaction. List what you observe that indicate a chemical change. It may be just a Physical Change, but you would need to explain why. If you are not in my class, then maybe you'll just find this totally ri...

Exponent Basics (Whole #s)

Here is the basics on exponents. What does it mean to ask, "What is 4 to the power of 3?" for example. We go over the crucial language you need to know, and what to do when you have a negative base number. This does NOT go through negative exponents.
Series and Parallel Circuits
Просмотров 2594 года назад
You need to know what a Series and Parallel circuit is AND how those types of circuits effect Resistance, Current, and Voltage. This tutorial goes through these effects and how to recognize the difference between the two types. This video also goes through a simplified 1/RT equation.
Scientific Notation
Просмотров 2604 года назад
This is a tutorial on how to write your numbers in a different way...a different notation if you will. It is like understanding a different language. Scientific notation is used to obey the Rule of Significant Digits and/or write super huge or super small numbers without having to write so many numbers. This is an absolute must skill to have as you progress in Science.
Significant Digits (Figures)
Просмотров 1474 года назад
What do you do when you are staring at your final answer on a calculator (or your head) and you have too many digits? Do you write them all? NO, you follow the rule of significant digits. This is a tutorial on what are Significant Digits/Figures and it's golden rule on how to give final answers properly.

Ok I think I get it. If I wanted a mechanical advantage of 5, and I have a 6m stick, and I push down on one end of the stick with 10N of force, then I need to place the fulcrum at the 4.8m mark, and the result will be that I lift 50N of force. I guess distance is involved too but not sure how-pushing a lever down results in rotational angle and that's where I get lost.

My observations : - It is an endothermic reaction because heat is absorbed from the " surrounding " which is here " water and board " into the " system " which is here the beaker containing barium hydroxide and ammonium thiocyanate . - We noticed a sort of water when stirring the mixture because of the H2O product yielded while mixing. - The reason for lifting up the entire plank of wood is due to the huge drop in temperature inside the beaker, so this leads water on the wood to transfer heat into the beaker, meaning that the plank and water are decreased in temperature ( As heat is transferred from a warmer object to a cooler object only" I'm so interested in watching this video many times later as the idea demonstrated in it is part of my next chemistry exam ! Mr. Leavitt, I do need your feedback on what I've mentioned ♡♡♡

    • @MrLeavittScience

Nice work. I would suggest your study up on chemical bonds. If you want to really explain the temperature change, or transfer, you may want to incorporate the energy it takes to make bonds and break bonds.
